Tips for Keeping Carpets Pristine

In this blog entry, the professional New Jersey carpet cleaning experts here at Aladdin Oriental Rugs will detail some useful tips for keeping your carpets pristine looking.

Regular Vacuuming

Make sure to vacuum regularly in order to prevent dirt and soil from getting embedded in the fibers of your carpet. Vacuum high traffic areas twice a week, medium traffic areas once a week, and low traffic areas every week to week and a half. Vacuuming will aso keep carpet fibers flexible and looking fresh.

Cleaning Spills Right Away

Make sure to clean up any spills as soon as possible. Always blot stains instead of rubbing them. Remove solid materials with a spoon or dull knife, add water and blot to remove the stain. Then vacuum with the highest suction setting. Only use spot removers that are appropriate for the carpet materials.

Yearly Professional Carpet Cleaning

Have your carpets cleaned at least once a year by professionals. Get your carpet steam cleaned or get a hot water extraction treatment to remove embedded dirt while sanitizing the carpet.

Furniture Dent Removal

Use a coin to stroke the area of the carpet dented by furniture. Or you can use an ice cube to loosen the pile of the carpet and fluff up the carpet fibers.

Clip Off Carpet Snags

If you see loose areas of your carpet snagging up, don’t pull them off, clip them off with scissors to save the carpet from figure damage. Don’t cut a hole in the carpet and be careful not to clip off other areas of the carpet.

Pet Hair Removal

Use a special squeegee to remove pet hair from carpets by running the squeegee along the carpet to pull off pet hair and then vacuum the carpet pile. Always use a long handled squeegee.

Mats and Blinds

Place mats over the carpets in an effective way to help protect the carpet, or consider adding rugs over high traffic areas. Additionally, use blinds or curtains in sunny windows to help prevent sun related carpet damage.
