In this blog entry, the professional NJ area carpet and rug cleaning team here at Aladdin Oriental Rug will detail the best ways to ensure that pet stains can be easily cleaned off your carpets and rugs.
Pet Stains on Carpets Removal Tips
- Blot the stain– Use a clean towel to plot the spot from the outside edge of the stain towards the stain’s center. Only blot instead of scrubbing, as scrubbing will spread the urine stain around.
- Treating the Stain with a Cleaning Product – We recommend using an enzyme based carpet cleaner, especially those specially formulated for treating pet urine. They can target bacteria and break down the materials of the urine. Look for an eco-friendly and pet-friendly enzyme cleanser, spray it on the spot, allow it to stay on the stain, and then blot the area dry. If you don’t have access to this cleanser, use a vinegar solution, then blot it up, and then baking soda, allowing the baking soda to remain overnight before vacuuming it.
- We don’t recommend mixing vinegar and baking soda
- Test all cleaning products on a small area of the carpet to make sure it won’t cause color loss or damage
- RInse and dry the carpet clean. Spray the spot with a spray of warm water and dry it again to remove any residue or debris. We recommend pointing a fan at the spot in order to help it dry faster
